Become a community accountability board member

Expressions of interest sought from business owners and the community to become a CAB member and provide input around responses to youth offending.

Territorians are being invited to take an active role in helping to address youth crime by joining a new advisory board.

Community accountability boards (CABs) are non-statutory advisory boards that form part of the Northern Territory Government's commitment to reduce youth offending. Listening to the voices of victims and community members is crucial to achieving this.

Expressions of interest are now open to local business owners, residents, non-government organisations, local councils and Aboriginal elders.

The boards will build stronger relationships with communities, assist enforcement efforts and improve the design, innovation and management of community based-youth justice programs.

They will allow members to:

  • provide input regarding youth offending in their region
  • make recommendations around the design and management of community-based youth justice programs
    • including community work order programs
  • assist in the reduction of youth offending and pathways for restoration
  • offer community-based programs and development opportunities for young people to break the cycle of reoffending
  • provide advice on community expectations of youth justice.

The boards will be established in Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs. Members are approved by the Minister for Territory Families and Urban Housing.
