New rental subsidy scheme to support key workers in the Territory

Published

The Northern Territory (NT) Government is partnering with Venture Housing Company to deliver a new Rent Choice Private Rental Subsidy Scheme, to reduce rental stress for key workers in the Territory.

To connect eligible key workers with affordable rental housing in the private market the NT Government is providing a $3 million grant to Venture Housing Company to establish the scheme, from now until June 2023.

Under the scheme eligible key workers in Greater Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs will be able to access subsidies of between 20% and 40% of their rent.

Eligible occupations include those in priority industries such as:

  • health and human services
  • hospitality
  • transport and logistics
  • construction
  • automotive.

For eligibility requirements and to register interest for the scheme, key workers should go to the Venture Housing Company website.

The scheme is part of a number of NT Government initiatives to increase affordable housing.
