Celebrating National Reconciliation Week 2022

Published

The 2022 National Reconciliation Week (NRW) theme is a challenge to all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and strengthen respectful relationships. ‘Be Brave. Make Change.’ calls upon all Australians to ‘be brave’ and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can ‘make change’ for the benefit of all Australians.

The dates for National Reconciliation Week remain the same each year - 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate 2 significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

National Reconciliation Week is a timely reminder of our agency’s commitment to achieve Aboriginal Cultural Security across our workforce, services and governance as we work together to deliver better outcomes for Territorians.

The Territory Families, Housing and Communities’ Aboriginal Cultural Security Framework enforces our vision of being an agency where Aboriginal cultural values, strengths and differences are integrated into the governance, management, design and delivery of services.

Territory Families, Housing and Communities acknowledge Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of this nation. Our agency is committed to honouring Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, and their rich contribution to society.

To commemorate this week, events will be taking place right across the Northern Territory and Australia.
