Hundreds of affordable homes transferred to community housing provider
A key target of the 10 year Community Housing Growth Strategy has been achieved, with the transfer of 320 affordable housing dwellings transferred to community housing provider management.
Our Housing Reform and Programs team has achieved a significant milestone with the transfer of 320 affordable housing dwellings to community housing provider, Venture Housing.
Jenny West, Manager Head Leasing and Projects, Housing Reform and Programs said the transfer was great news for key workers who have been in the Territory for years and who have recently arrived, with affordable housing making it possible to stay and work in the Territory.
“As our Community Housing Growth Strategy outlines, we’re committed to transferring 2000 dwellings to community housing providers for better outcomes for tenants. The transfer of 320 dwellings is a big step towards achieving our goal,” Ms West said.
“At the end of day, it’s about making sure all Territorians have access to safe and secure housing.”
The properties are located across Darwin, Palmerston and Coolalinga and are rented at 70 per cent of the market rate to eligible low and middle income earners.
The transfer of affordable housing management from Government to community housing providers is outlined in the Community Housing Growth Strategy and brings benefits such as
- increased access to revenue and finance not available to the Northern Territory Government to enable providers to leverage and grow their portfolios
- improved tenancy management through rigorous key performance indicators under the National Regulatory Scheme for Community Housing
- a stronger focus on supporting tenancies with complex needs or experiencing an adverse life event.
