Housing hotline goes 24/7

Published

Raising concerns about public housing in the Northern Territory will become more convenient and easier than ever before with the launch of a 24/7 Housing Complaints hotline.

Territorians can now call a single number – 1800 685 743 – at any time of day and night and talk to a person who has knowledge and training in managing and logging housing complaints.

The improved phone line replaces the old system that had two different numbers that were answered during business hours.

Calls will be answered by our data centre services team based in Millner and staff have received training in answering housing enquiries and complaints.

They will also be able to provide advice in real time if the complaint is best handled by another agency or department, meaning people don’t have to wait to be pointed in the right direction.

The current system fielded more than 2,000 calls between 1 July 2022 and 31 March 2023 and generally receives complaints made by neighbours with common themes being antisocial behaviour, construction noise and barking dogs.

The 1800 685 743 number is free to call and became a 24/7 service as of 19 June 2023.
