Remote rent
The remote rent framework is a simplified way of paying rent. It applies to tenants in:
- remote communities
- Tennant Creek community living areas.
The framework doesn't apply to Alice Springs Town Camps as they are transitioning to community controlled housing management.

How it's calculated
Remote rent is based on how big the house is. The following applies:
- rent is $70 per bedroom per week
- houses with more than 4 bedrooms are capped to $280 per week.
The person/s on the tenancy agreement is responsible for making sure the rent is paid. This also includes house boss or co boss.
Rental rebates no longer apply, and there is no bond for remote rent.

Rental stress
Rental stress happens when the rent is more than 25% of the total assessable household income.
To help make sure tenants don't experience rental stress, we've developed a rental safety net policy.
How the safety net works
The safety net applies to tenants who are at risk of rental stress.
Tenants at risk are placed on a lower rent rate for an initial period of 6 months. During this time, housing officers will work with tenants to determine whether they have ongoing eligibility.
If you think you may be at risk of rental stress, contact your local housing officer to find out what you need to do.

- Pay your rent on time
- Take care of your house
- Report maintenance
- If you cause damage, you will be charged to fix it
Where rent money goes
The money collected through remote rent is invested back into communities to improve housing.It will be used for:
- repairs
- upgrades
- building more houses.
