Published

Nominations for the highly anticipated 2024 NT Sports Awards are officially open. This is your chance to nominate outstanding athletes, coaches, sporting officials, and volunteers who have made significant contributions to the sporting landscape of the Northern Territory.

The annual Northern Territory Sports Awards celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of individuals and teams across 12 categories. From the prestigious Sportsperson of the Year to the Karen Schneider Sports Medicine Australia Safer Sport Award, these awards showcase the diverse talent and passion that thrives within the Territory, spanning grassroots initiatives to elite competitions.

General Manager of Sport, Recreation and Strategic Infrastructure Mitch Hardy said the awards are a great way to recognise our local sporting heroes as well as our national and international leaders for their incredible achievements and the dedication they’ve demonstrated.

“These awards are also an opportunity to celebrate the often-unsung heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes - our volunteers and officials are the lifeblood of sport and deserve recognition for their contributions.

“I would encourage everyone to nominate deserving candidates and help us celebrate the Territory’s greatest sportspersons and the people and clubs that support them,” he said.

Everyone is invited to submit your nominations for the following:

  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year
  • Masters Sportsperson of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Official of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Local Performance of the Year
  • Karen Schneider Sports Medicine Australia Safer Sport Award.

Award recipients will be announced at an awards ceremony on Saturday 20 April 2024 alongside individuals inducted to the NT Hall of Champions, NT Roll of Honour and the Steve Abala Role Model - the ‘Administrator’s Medal’.

These 3 awards recognise the Territory’s greatest sportspeople, the pivotal role of coaches, administrators and officials, and acknowledge superb athletes with strong connections to the NT considered an ideal role model for others to follow.

Recipients of these awards are recommended by peak sports bodies and sports industry networks throughout the year for an independent panel of sports industry experts to consider and awarded at the NT Sports Awards ceremony.
