Signs of Safety

The Signs of Safety is a constantly evolving approach to child protection casework. The approach focuses on practices, tools and methods that make a real difference for professionals and families facing the complex problems of child abuse.

The Signs of Safety approach provides principles, disciplines and fit-for-purpose tools that equip practitioners and supervisors to build and increase safety for children together with children, parents and their connected support networks.

There a three core principles of Signs of Safety:

  • working relationships
  • thinking critically, fostering a stance of inquiry
  • landing grand aspirations in everyday practice

Aboriginal Practice Leadership Framework

The Aboriginal leadership framework spells out what Territory Families, Housing and Communities commitment to “Aboriginal staff being at the centre of the Signs of Safety implementation” and “Aboriginal community engagement in the Signs of Safety implementation” will look like.

In doing so, this framework operationalises the Territory Families Aboriginal Cultural Security Framework for the Signs of Safety implementation and casework roles.
