Men’s Places newsletter – January 2023

Men’s Places Network

The Men’s Places Network is being established to connect men’s places and men’s programs through regular updates and to share ideas, successes, resources and learnings. The Network is a component of the Northern Territory Government’s Men’s Places Policy and Program, which was launched in November 2022 and includes a grants program that makes $100,000 available annually to support the delivery of programs and activities at Men’s Places in the Northern Territory.

The Network, Grants and Policy and Program are intended to support the work already being undertaken across the Territory by Men’s Sheds, men’s places, men’s peer-to-peer support programs and men’s healing places in the Northern Territory.

The Men’s Places Network will assist in connecting men’s places across the Northern Territory to share resources, exchange knowledge and provide opportunities for partnering and collaboration. The Network will hold quarterly online meetings and produce a quarterly e-newsletter that will provide an overview of the Network meeting, grant opportunities, relevant research and programs of interest.

Men’s Places Policy and Program Launch

Minister for Equality and Inclusion, Hon Lauren Moss MLA launched the first ever Northern Territory Men’s Places Policy and Program at the International Men’s Day Forum held in Darwin on Friday, 18 November 2022.

The Men’s Places Policy and Program was developed through consultations with Men’s Sheds, men’s places, men’s healing programs and men’s groups.  There are various places where men gather to connect, share and learn from each other, and the Policy and Program aims to provide guidance and support for these activities and programs with the intent to enhance life outcomes for Northern Territory men.

The Men’s Places Policy and Program relates to any programs and activities undertaken at men’s places in the Northern Territory, including Men’s Sheds and similar entities, men’s groups, men’s healing programs, and men’s groups that support the five key focus areas of the Northern Territory Gender Equality Action Plan 2022-2025: community engagement; health and wellbeing; safety; economic security; and leadership and participation.
