2022 NT Youth Round Table biography - Upani Muthumala

Upani was born in Sri Lanka and has been living in Australia for 9 years, 5 of which she has spent in the NT. Upani is currently finishing Year 11 at Darwin High School and works at the Northern Territory Football League Umpiring Association as a boundary umpire.

Upani loves participating in cultural activities in the Territory, and is a keen learner. She is a competitive swimmer for the Casuarina Storm Swimming Club and volunteers with the One Girl organisation and the Sri Lankan Australian Friendship Association Youth Programs. She likes debating, and has been a member in various school clubs such as the Interact Club, and the PRIDE committee. Upani is an avid reader who spends most of her free time with a novel in hand.

Upani says:

"I want to join the NT Youth Round Table because I would love the opportunity to help make positive change, contribute and learn about building positive youth culture in the NT. I would love to share my opinion about relevant issues in youth culture amongst diverse communities, mental health and education. As a youth of a diverse background, I would also bring a diverse perspective to my role, and could potentially voice issues that may not be at the forefront of conversation."
